Calling all Shoppers!! New Shoes Needed!

We are getting ready to send shoes and money for shoes to  Sole Mission and would sure love for you to be a part. Please bring new shoes, children's or adults to the Women's Ministries table to add to our collection. Check those sale tables at all your favorite shoe stores for clearance or sale items and just see how many new pair of shoes you can get for us to send.  Sole Mission has given away many many pair of new shoes for all those who have suffered and lost everything in the tornadoes in Alabama and in Joplin, Missouri.
So do your best to help them recover for Back to School in rural America. If you don't have time to shop, then just bring a check by the Women's Ministries table to contribute and we will get the money to them. This is one way we can help is simply by contributing shoes.

Sole Mission

Sole Mission, through Rural Compassion, collects and distributes shoes to children and families throughout rural America. Thousands of children live in poverty in small communities across the country. Many of these children face a daily struggle. No shoes......or shoes with holes in them...... the children patch them with cardboard.....but when it rains the cardboard is no match for water. Other children wear shoes that are too small for them, causing their feet to grow misshapen and their toes crooked. This cause problems throughout life.

On the disaster side, Sole Mission responds to many disasters each year. Often resources and help are located in larger populated areas, making it difficult for rural families to access. Children and parents left with only the clothes they were wearing at the time of the disaster, are provided with new shoes, work boots, and other supplies provided by Rural Compassion.

Friday Night is Friendship Dinner!!

Sole Mission and If the Shoe Fits

We will be introducing a Project at the Friendship Dinner this Friday night called Sole Mission. How appropriate that Sole Mission needs our help just as we are highlighting shoes at our Friendship Dinner.

This year you will have the opportunity to help hundreds of children here in the United States.  Some of these children have never had a pair of shoes  or maybe a pair of shoes that fit.  We will be sharing this special project with you at the Friendship Dinner  so please come expecting to give, to help a child in need.

Sandra Bass Palmer

Sandra Bass Palmer, 54, died April 23, 2010 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, April 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Assembly, 5005 Corey Road in Winterville, North Carolina with interment to follow in Dunn, North Carolina. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Humble First Assembly of God, 1915 FM 1960 Bypass Road East in Humble, Texas 77338.

Mrs. Palmer was born in Dunn, North Carolina on October 02, 1955 to Vondrue and Alma Jean Bass.
She attended public school in Dunn and graduated from Dunn High School in 1973. In 1978, she graduated from Southeastern College in Lakeland, Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Ministry.
Mrs. Palmer served in Belgium for four and one-half years as a schoolteacher for the children of other missionaries. She then attended Spanish language school in Costa Rica for one year and received appointment as a World Missionary and became an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God. Sandra then served for one year in Colombia, South America in a missionary teaching position. Sandra added to her experience by writing and producing children’s programs in Spanish for S.T.A.R. Ministries in Florida, the Spanish Television And Radio network. The programs she produced were used throughout Latin America.
From 1993 to 2002, Sandra served as Women’s Ministries Director for the North Carolina District of the Assemblies of God. From 2003 until her death, she served in the same capacity for the South Texas District, headquartered in Houston.
Since July 2006, Sandra has been working toward building a long-term rehabilitation home for rescued victims of sex trafficking. Home of Hope-Texas had become the passion of her life and ministry.
She is survived by her husband, Mark, of Houston, Texas; parents, Clayton Vondrue and Alma Jean Bass of Greenville, North Carolina; sister, Vonda and husband, Les Robinson of Greenville, North Carolina; nieces, Caroline Lassiter and Kate Robinson; nephew, Clay Robinson, all of Greenville, North Carolina; an aunt, Jerri McLamb of Four Oaks, North Carolina; cousins, Rev. Sam McLamb and wife Teena of Mills River, North Carolina and Gary McLamb and wife Inge, of Burlington, North Carolina, and dear friends Dr. Glynn and Gay Lynn Dickens, of Salisbury, North Carolina.
In addition, Sandra had thousands of friends in many countries whose lives were affected by her vibrant personality, her love of people, and her faithful dedication to minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ in faraway corners of the globe. She leaves a huge vacancy in the hearts of many who dearly love her.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Greenville.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that contributions in her honor be sent to Home of Hope-Texas, P.O. Box 60385, Houston, TX 77205.

Sandra Bass Palmer

Friday, April 23rd, 2010, Sandra was taken Home to be with the Lord. She was in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where she would be speaking on Saturday, traveling from the airport with the Pastor's wife when their car was hit by a truck. They both went home to be with the Lord at that time.

Sandra has been a truly vital part of our Women's Ministries, being our South Texas District Director but also because we were her Home-Girls. She loved the Women of Humble First Assembly, but she also had a special love for all women.

Home of Hope Texas, the home being built for victims of sex trafficking, in the Houston area was the vision the Lord gave her several years ago. Work is being done on the 20 acre piece of property north of Houston in preparation for the main building which will house women and girls who have been rescued.

There will be a Service at Humble First Assembly on Saturday, May 8th at 2PM to Celebrate her Life. For those wishing to give a memorial gift in honor of Sandra, they may do so by making it out and sending it to the South Texas District Office, P.O. Box 9714, Houston, TX, 77213, with a memo listing "Sandra Palmer Memorial". These funds will be directed through the Project Destiny account and to Home of Hope in Sandra's memory.

Please feel free to comment on this post to share your thoughts and memories of Sandra's powerful yet short life here on this earth. The Lord blessed us to be a part of her work and vision through our support of Project Destiny and Home of Hope.

Thanksgiving

THANKSGIVING

What does Thanksgiving mean to you?

Is it only a motion you go through?

When it arrives each and every year,

Do you think of it as a meal to share?

Some refer to it as simply Turkey day.

They don’t even take time to pray.

When some think of Thanksgiving Day,

They get excited because Christmas is on the way.

Hundreds search for the after-Thanksgiving Day sales.

Multitudes fret over all their Christmas details.

Years past, we would not consider putting up our Christmas decor,

Until this day was completely o’er.

The decorations were the pilgrim or Indian hats we wore,

Maybe a turkey displayed on our front door.

Still there are those who observe this as a sacred day.

There are those who do take the time to pray.

Many count their blessings instead of the people there.

They thank their God for all they have to share.

They thank Him for all the things He has done.

They count their blessing one by one.

When you come upon this Thanksgiving Day,

Do not simply give it away.

Take the time to reflect and pray.

Thank your God for this very special day.
